A total of logs from two species, red oak (Quercus rubra) and yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulip(/era), were measured in five typical hardwood sawmills across West Virginia to evaluate log sawing practices and lumber recovery. Finding a reliable source for timber can be challenging. For the most part, finding logs for sale requires building relationships with timber suppliers, whether they are logging companies, other sawmills, tree services, reclamation companies or log salvage operations.
